The History
For over 70 years Buffs for Christ has been blessed from support from churches all across the Texas Panhandle and the surrounding areas! They have encouraged us though prayer and through food, they have supported us financially and spiritually! We will forever be indebted to the these churches and will always seek to support and encourage them so long as Buffs for Christ exists!
The Problem
It is no secret churches all over the United States are declining in size. The Texas Panhandle is not immune to this. Many West Texas towns and the churches in those towns have a population that is drying up. This is making it very difficult for churches to continue to support the ongoing work on the campus of West Texas A&M University through Buffs for Christ. At one time we had over 50 congregations who gave regularly to our ministry. As of 2023, we have 21 congregations that send us support. Many of the congregations who no longer support the work of the Bible Chair were no longer able to afford to send donations and many of those churches had to close their doors altogether. We will forever be grateful and indebted to all of the many congregations that support or have supported the Bible Chair, and we will always rely on that support into the future. We see Buffs for Christ as a regional work. Something that connects congregations from Canadian to Seagraves and Shamrock to Friona.
The Solution
As towns and churches continue to decline in size we hope to create a space for Alumni, friends, and families to support the Bible Chair in a way that ensures the LONGEVITY of Buffs for Christ. It was with this goal that The Herd Fund for Buffs for Christ was formed. This isn’t designed to take money away from the day-to-day expense of running the work but rather is a secondary option to give back. Money given to the Herd Fund is invested and the interest gained will benefit the Bible Chair indefinitely. Please consider donating to The Herd Fund and keep us in mind for your estate planning.
