History of the Bible Chair
The Church of Christ Bible Chair was established to develop the spiritual lives of Christian students at WTAMU and to evangelize the University community. The Bible Chair began in a house across from the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. It has grown into one of the most outstanding works of its kind among Churches of Christ. The north side of the present facility was completed in 1955 and the south wing was added in 1969. In 2008, the building received a complete remodel due to the use of asbestos from the early years. The current facility seeks to maintain a modern feel, with the integration of a more cohesive building flow.
Past Bible Chair Directors: Earl Craig, C.L. Kay, Douglas Rohre, Gordan Downing, Bob Shepard, and Kent Mereness
Additional Campus Associates: Tony Allison, Homer Cole, Larry Suttle, Tom Chapin, Kirk Willis, Randy Daw, David Watlington, Mark Tidwell, Alan Nickson, Marcus Melton, Kirk Collier, Andrew Burgoon, J.T. Oden, Trent Tanaro, Lane McFarland, Doug Johnson, and Tim Myers
Chance Herron currently serves as the Director; he graduated from WTAMU in 2017 and began working full time with BFC in August 2021.
Goals
Upreach
And we all, who with unvelied faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
2 Corinthians 3:18
We are completely dependent on God as we seek to be disciples of Christ. God is graciously forming every Christian in the image of Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit through spiritual disciplines such as meditation, prayer, studying, service, worship, etc.
Inreach
All Scripture is God-breathed and Is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
We are completely dependent on God’s Word as we seek to be and make disciples of Christ. God has inspired the Holy Scriptures by his Holy Spirit so that they assist us in obeying the great commision.
Outreach
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything as I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20
We are completely dependent on God as we seek to make disciples of Christ. God has called us to follow the example of Christ. God has called us to go, make, baptize, and teach.
