Do you Hate people?
The stage magician and atheist Penn Jillette was given a bible after one of his shows. It wasn’t long after he received this bible that he made a short YouTube video titled “A Gift of a Bible” in this video he describes receiving this Bible and then goes on to say,
“How much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?
I mean, if I believe, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that a truck was coming at you and you didn’t believe it, that a truck was bearing down on you, there’s a certain point where I tackle you — and this is more important than that.”
What powerful and insightful words Penn has here for all Christians. As Christians, we should be “tackling” people in the streets, doing everything we can to share the gospel to ensure that they know the gift of everlasting life. To quote Penn, “How much do you have to hate somebody to believe that everlasting life is possible and not tell them?” I encourage you not only this week but this year to keep this in mind, how many friends, coworkers, students, etc. do you have in your life that need to hear the gospel? Do you love them? Do you genuinely care for them? Do you want them to inherit everlasting life? If you do, which I imagine we all do, then let your actions show that. It's time to “tackle” them, it's time to speak up and share the gospel with them. I pray that each of us will have the courage and strength to do that. Have a great week!
