Advent?
What is Advent?
The Oxford dictionary defines it as “the arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.” Typically, the Advent season includes the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. It began this year on Sunday, November 27. It’s a time of expectancy and preparation for the celebration of Jesus’ birth.
There are plenty of really good resources available for advent, I encourage you to find one and spend the next few weeks filling your heart and mind with scripture and devotional thoughts. Read them with your family before dinner, or read them by yourself in the morning or at night, it really doesn’t matter so long as you are setting your mind on things above. This past Thursday, I read through Romans 8 with the Bible Chair interns, below are a few highlights.
“For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so, and those who are in the flesh cannot please God…. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also, we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body. For in hope we have been saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for who hopes for what he already sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, with perseverance we wait eagerly for it.” Romans 8:6-8, 22-25 NASB95
The semester ends on the 8th so things around the Bible Chair will b a bit slower. I ask that you pray for the students that they may experience rest and that we all come back rejuvenated and ready to share the gospel at WT. Have a great Christmas!
